DAIHARD BBS RULESUpdated August 20081. Your location section of your profile MUST be filled out.
The format MUST be either "Country, Location
" or "Location, Country"
with the Location part being a state, a county, a city, a provence or even a post code, but something to indicate where in that country you are located.
- Melbourne, Australia - OK
- East Sussex, UK - OK
- USA - BAD - Where in the USA are you fromThis is not an anonymous forum and as such, we expect people to advise where they are from. Failure to do as such will result in your account not being activated. Admins DO have access to your ip address, admins will generally not make this information public.2. Your correct email address MUST be supplied
A correct email address MUST be supplied in your profile. Any bounced emails come through to the board administrators, and we are sick and tired of it. Your email address can be hidden from the general population of the board in your profile preferences.Hotmail, Yahoo and all other advertising based free webmail services are now no longer accepted as a valid email address, we currently get dozens of bounces from these services per day, if you use one of these services and we get a bounced message, your account will be deleted WITHOUT warning. Every ISP account i have seen since 1995 has at least one free email account supplied, if it is still all too hard, ask your local nerd for help. Remember this is a free service to you, we do a lot to help you, you can do a little to help yourself.3. Potentially offensive material restricted to the slag zone
If you want to really
abuse somebody or something, put it in the Slag Zone, other areas have to be kept relativle clean. But in saying this, virtually anything is allowed in the Slag Zone, so if you dont like bad words, or being abused, DO NOT go into the Slag Zone, you have been warned. This applies to both text, pictures and links (unless an obvious warning about the link is posted). Since many people not offended by this material work in workplaces where this would be deemed offensive, this area can be avoided by them while at work and still have a good old yarn in the other areas.EDIT: The entire board is considered "open season" on pratts. If you are in to illegal and dangerous activities (for example, street racing), you will be a target of ridicule and abuse and you are not welcome here. The members here are grown ups, whether they are fifteen or fifty, and a lot of us have young families. We do not tolerate wankers on the road and we do not want them as a member of our online community. We suggest you go and join another Daihatsu enthusiast's online forum where it is considered clever to use public roads as a method of proving your "manhood". We can suggest a forum if you need.4. Avatars - 120x120pixels 10KB MAXIMUM
A message forum is about what people say, not about what people look like, what people would like to look like, or worse what people where able to rip from another site. To this end we expect the forum to be fast for modem use and super fast for broadband and not loose the clean formatting becasue some prat wants a "cool avatar"For windows users, irfanview is a great FREE image manipulation program, try resizing so the largest size is 100 pixels, reduce the colour depth to 256 colours and save as PNG with maximum compression, this will usually get you under 10KB, if not ask your local nerd for help5. Inline images within threads - 400x300 50KB MAXIMUM
For exactly the same reasons as the avatars need to be kept small, so do in thread pictures. If you really need to show off high res pictures, simply put a link to the picture so people have a choice if they wish to spend the time looking.6. Inline images within signatures ARE BANNED
A picture can express a thousand words. It also takes up the bandwith of many thousands of words, destroys formatting like a thousand words and quite frankly doesn't add anything to the forum. You are welcome to have a small signature, including links to images if you wish.7. This BBS is owned by Marc Austin-Zande.
He is The Dark Lord of the Undead
and what he says goes. This IS NOT a public place, it is a PRIVATE place where the public is generally welcome under certain expectations. Of cource this rule overrides all others, for obvious reasons.
Failure to comply with these rules will probably result in your account being deleted, although we reserve the right to delete any account for any reason the management of this board wishes.
That said, it is worth noting that in the more than ten years DaiHard has been going, only two people have been banned... HUNDREDS have been refused registration simply for not complying with Rule #1 and #2. It's just not that hard to comply with our wishes and if you do find it difficult to do so, we probably don't want you here.NOW FOR THE DISCLAIMER
Nobody here will take responsibility if this bbs damages anything (whether it be software, hardware, cars, feelings, egos (or anything else) directly or indirectly. You visit here AT YOUR OWN RISK. The opinions expressed here are entirely the opinion of the message poster. If you dont like them, live with it, that's what the world is about, differences.
Marc Zande is the biggest bastard
here, he has done ALL the work to bring us this BBS, and if he decides to do anything here that you dont like, then too bad. Also the ISP eis.net
are the kind people hosting this board, if they decide to do anything like unplug us, then it's tough cookies for us. Ernie, the owner of eis.net
, has housed our BBS for quite some years now and has assisted with a lot of technical support over those years. If you live in Brisbane or Melbourne, consider eis.net
for your web services. Visit http://www.eis.net.au
Some of the power & responsibility of the maintaince of the board has been delegated to other administrators and moderators and if you dont like something they have done, then you are welcome to complain to Marc. However, since they probably did it for a very good reason, you will probably get a response like "begone ye foul newt"... if you get a response at all. One fool complained to the host ISP and he is no longer a member here.
If you dont like anything, then please feel free to go and visit http://www.phpbb.org
, download the software, get your own machine and net connection and have fun.
